Will the top buys pay off in 8th edition of IPL?

Highest priced two years in a row, and can you believe that this guy didn't make the cut for India's World Cup squad? Maybe that tells you something about why we lost in the semifinals.

YUVRAJ SINGH
Highest priced two years in a row, and can you believe that this guy didn't make the cut for India's World Cup squad? Maybe that tells you something about why we lost in the semifinals. But anyway... The lefthander, who holds the record for hitting six sixes in an over, scored 376 runs in 14 matches in season 7 of IPL.Did you whisper strike rate? A cool 135! And he can be quite a handful with his gentle spin on a helpful wicket.Only time will tell if he is worth the money.
1x1 polls

DINESH KARTHIK
His glovework is fast and accurate, but Karthik makes the cut just on his batting. Again, he hung on to the second spot in IPL auctions twice in a row. He piled on 325 runs at a strike rate of 125 last year and is especially prized for his calming influence in the middle overs before the final, manic charge. He puts a fair price on his wicket and so do the RCB authorities. In tricky situations, he is the guy to look out for. So, keep an eye on him in crunch matches.
ZAHEER KHAN
This is the year for Zaheer to prove if his pace engine still has enough steam. Yes, he's lost speed but he more than makes up for it with his experience. Last season, he had to drop out midway through the tournament due to an injury. So there's lots to make up for this year.
ANGELO MATHEWS
The Sri Lankan all-rounder went unsold last year but came roaring back to grab the third spot in 2015.However, the World Cup was a bit of a damper for him, as he didn't have much to show apart from a quickfire 51 off 21 balls against Scotland. So there's lots to prove this IPL season. No opposition can take him lightly.

DAVID WIESE
David who, did you ask? The South African all-rounder is a busybody with the ball, with perfect line and length that bring him wickets regularly. Wiese may have had a late start to his career but he's proven that he can also contribute coming lower down the order. He uses the long handle liberally, but can also play an anchor if wickets are falling quickly. We think he's one of the dark horses this season.
TRENT BOULT
Can the Kiwi pacer bring his World Cup form to the IPL? That is one of the biggest questions doing the rounds right now. This dude has every weapon in the armoury -swing, seam, a surprising bouncer and a good slower ball. Plus he's superb with the older ball in the death overs. In fact, there's enough reason to put him among the top buys this year even though he didn't play last season.
AMIT MISHRA
Well, he's not Shane Warne, or even Anil Kumble. But Mishra sure knows how to keep the batsman guessing. Last year was tough, as he put in a below average performance, but he has performed consistently in previous editions. He is sought after for his ability to put a choke on runs.
AARON FINCH
He might have had a luke warm start in IPL 8, but any bowler will take Finch lightly at his own peril. The opener can take any bowling attack apart on his day. He starts his innings carefully, takes his time to settle down and then starts opening up once the conditions are right.
MURALI VIJAY
He's graduated from the Dhoni school of cricket. In fact, he's been an IPL veteran over the seasons even as he changed teams and joined the Punjab dressing room. His timing and strokeplay are his strengths and his owners are hoping that the young gun will fire for them.
DARREN SAMMY
His recent performances in the World Cup have shown that he is an indispensable asset with the bat. His unconventional technique can disturb the line and length of the calmest bowler.Though he is aggressive, he is also a thinking player who reads the game well. He's handy with the ball and is quite a livewire on the field. His form has been a bit topsy turvy recently, but he can prove to be the trump card for any team.
